
REDSHIFT (2018) was written over a course of many months and many drafts.
The seed of the story comes from experiences in the director's life but what Allan came up with was a fictional, layered story jumping backward and forwards in time. It further evolved into a multi-layered tale when the director wanted to throw in some time/space sci-fi components. It took a bit of convincing for the producer and Allan but it turned into a very provocative piece.

The script originally had no dialogue and was intended to be improvised by the acting cast on set.
In the end, there was an incredible amount of dialogue that was written almost exclusively in post-production. It's a fascinating and challenging experience sitting with the director in playback with a rough cut and coming up with voice-over dialogue and monologues for the background actors.

This particular project was intended to be more manageable but it ended up being a complicated piece so credit to all involved who pulled off a really good effort in the end for more or less £500.

The film was screened and received well at its premiere at the FACT in Liverpool.

'Redshift' is a complex drama about a man struggling to come to terms with his dysfunctional childhood and his unique place in the universe.
